Episode 011 – Papaya?

Information surrounding the approaching shows in Yokohama, Glastonbury, London, and Nagoya occupy much of our discussion this time. The Brixton venue claims it has the only European show of 2019, BABYMETAL announce Live Viewings of the final night of the Nagoya Legend M shows. We talk about the BABYMETAL Wonderful Journey, and a fortunate encounter the Funko Pops had with Ayaka Miyoshi, one of BABYMETAL’s fellow SG alums. And we speculate about papayas a little bit.

Episode 010 – Melted Credit Cards

In this episode, we talk about the release of the Elevator Girl single, the announcement of the surprisingly extensive US tour in September-October, 2019, and the announcement of the (The One exclusive) Apocrypha – The Chosen Seven BD/CD set. Lastly, we announce some homework for next time, when we will talk about some interviews with Kobametal.

Episode 009 – BABYMETAL Lives

Join us in a blast from the past as we talk about the things that happened before any of the events surrounding the release of Elevator Girl had taken place. Revel with us in our numerous wrong guesses! Between the previous episode and the recording of this one, a number of new shows were announced, including two festival shows (in California and in Taipei), and two headlining shows, one in London (puzzlingly scheduled between the June and July Japan shows), and a huge one in Los Angeles (at the Forum in October). We talk about that, and a little bit about the then-upcoming release of Elevator Girl, and speculate about how maybe they won’t even do a tour this year, or if so maybe it’ll be late in the year, after the Forum.

Episode 008: Countdown to XXXX

Fox Day 2019 arrived, and then almost ended before the official tweet announcing a new album and four concerts (BABYMETAL AWAKENS – THE SUN ALSO RISES – Jun 28-29 Yokohama Arena; BABYMETAL ARISES – BEYOND THE MOON – LEGEND -M- – Jul 6-7 Portmesse Nagoya). Two of which are the much-anticipated Legend M shows. We chat about these developments, rumors and evidence of a soon-to-be released single, and an epic pair of interviews in PMC magazine.

Episode 007 – Doki Doki Podcast

The news, such as it is, includes the announcement of The One 2019, which begins by picking a size and buying a T-shirt. The Gimme Chocolate!! video hits 100m views, which is marked officially by silence. Saya (who stood in Yui’s place in some recent shows) and Kotono (who performed in the big Japan shows) perform Gimme Chocolate!! at their performance school in what was reportedly a very realistic fashion. Art prints from John McMurtrie and GMB Chomichuk. And then we spend the rest of the episode on a deep dive into Doki Doki Morning, the first BABYMETAL song performed and released. We talk a bit about the lyrics, the individual performances, song structure and impressions, its evolution. And then we begin waiting to see what will happen on Fox Day 2019.

Episode 006 – BABYMETAL Podcast DEATH

In this episode, we tell our stories of how we came to be fans of BABYMETAL, after rounding up the news (such it was) since the end of episode 3. News was scarce enough that a single tweet promising “Big things coming in 2019” counted as news. Also, BABYMETAL was announced as part of Summer Sonic 2019 in August. Lastly, we announced that we will be talking about Doki Doki Morning at the next opportunity, the song that started it all. Lots to say about the words, the evolution of the performances, the MV and commentary, the song, the merch, whatever! So, it’s like homework, except it’s the fun kind.

Episode 003 – Hashtags

We begin 2019 talking mostly about two tweets, a poster, and a song in a video game. The official New Year’s tweet from BABYMETAL contained a cryptic image and references to “dawn,” “odyssey,” and “metal galaxy” that have led to interesting speculations among the fans. Also discussed (just prior to its release) is the appearance of “Starlight” on Rock Band 4, and what that might bring. And we talk of anniversaries: a year since guitarist Mikio Fujioka passed away, birthdays of guitarists Ohmura and Isao. Even in the slow time after the end of the 2018 tour, there are still trickles of news.

Episode 002 – 7の次は3 [Hey! Hey!]

BABYMETAL opened for Judas Priest in Singapore, then played three festival dates at the Good Things Festival in Australia (Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane). These shows marked a return to a three-person formation, with Saya Hirai taking up the third position, and introduced a new Kami band guitarist, Yusuke Hiraga. We get a firsthand report from the Melbourne festival show, and discuss the release of the Distortion 12” vinyl singles.
